I fell in love with Tinkerbell when I was a little girl. She was the epitome of sexy and naughty with her little green dress and fairy dust. I went to numerous Halloween parties in an adult Tinkerbell costume. Now I'm a grown up woman and suddenly the idea of wearing a little pixie dress isn't appropriate, but its still fun to dress up occasionally for a costume party or Halloween event, and Tinkerbell is one of the most fun and simple costumes to recognize and emulate.

The Tinkerbell character is based on the character by J. M. Barrie called Peter and Wendy. You can watch a semi-true story about the book's inspiration if you rent Finding Neverland with Johnny Depp.
J.M Barrie originally described Tinkerbell as a magical tinker (a tinker in fantasy fiction is usually a gnome or small person who fixes machinery or metals), which when combined with the way she spoke, in dulcet bells, was how she got her name. Tinkerbell trailed magical "fairy dust" everywhere and when sprinkled over humans, if they believe it, they can fly while thinking happy thoughts.
Tinkerbell has been immortalized in film many times. In 1953 the infamous Disney cartoon, Peter Pan, made her a star. She's been played in numerous film adaptations by Virginia Faire, Ludivine Sagnier, and Julia Roberts.
Tinkerbell has also been celebrated in art through sculpture and illustrations. The original author, Barrie, bequeathed his copyright to a famous British hospital who commissioned a bronze sculpture of Peter Pan. The hospital erected a bronze statue of Peter Pan which was 4 feet high and a seven inch Tinkerbell on his thumb.
